I’m 2 years clean and that’s NOT because of inpatient care that’s because my therapist used harm reduction and replacement strategies with me and made sure that I was being safe at the very least when I was doing it

Inpatient is usually extremely traumatizing so yeah that’s why it is to be avoided and to be very very very last resort like oh they have literally attempted or are about to or are actively trying to hurt someone else you see what I mean

In all reality forcing someone to go inpatient in general is usually unnecessary but that’s a whole other thing

Hot take: forcing someone to go inpatient for self harm and self harm alone is unnecessary and is more harmful than frequent therapy along with harm reduction and replacement strategies but what would I know (I say what would I know sarcastically)
