I've written sporadically on the internet before on and off throughout the years, but I'm very happy to debut my new piece via @polygon.com in which I dive into the brief cinematic history of the Black Vampire. If you liked SINNERs, then this is for you.

Just met Kenji. He says hi

Fourth film of Sitges. The one many of you have been waiting for.

Now Seated for Kenji Tanigaki's THE FURIOUS.

I would be at Sitges but it plays the day after I leave! Curses!

I'm never really sure how to talk about documentaries, especially talking head ones, but I enjoyed this. Nothing I can't say I didn't already know but I'm always game for a doc that recommends films I haven't heard of before. That's a big plus for me as I seek them out for later.

Third film for the SITGES Film Festival (and rare documentary at that): 1,000 WOMEN IN HORROR

Solid, solid stuff. Hope people check this out come January as I don't recall the last time a creature feature was this hard hitting (outside of maybe CRAWL).

Some of those kills had the audience in an uproar.

Really wasn't expecting this to be as intense and relentless as it was. Cannot stress enough how goddamn mean this was, but there's a sweet emotional chemistry between Troy Kotsur and his two daughters to really root for.

PRIMATE is mean as Hell. Like Capital M, MEAN. Grade A Creature Feature that knows what it is from the jump with its Carpenter-esque score and setting. If you think you know whose safe in this, think again.
Great blend of practical & digital chimpanzee effects with stellar gore.

Not sure how much Flanagan's influence was imparted on certain scares as several reminded me of such from his previous projects, but Stuckmann has a keen eye for eerie abandoned settings where evil has uprooted community both literally and figuratively. Dug this immensely.

Found Chris Stuckmann's debut feature to be incredibly effective and atmospheric. A little bit of LAKE MUNGO, a dash of HEREDITARY, some SILENT HILL. His oscillation between "real", True Crime, and found footage speaks to a real confidence and love of the individual formats.

Immediately started storming after the end of SHELBY OAKS. You can't buy marketing that good.

Oh shit, Chris Stuckman is here. That's pretty cool.

I appreciate it my man. Thanks!

Thank you so much man! 🙏

#ICYMI sharing my recently published piece via Fangoria on the fantastic ALAN WAKE 2 and how it ties into the theory of Hyperstition, where fictions can bring themselves into reality.

Alan Wake 2 is a mindfuck of a game and such an incredible one. If you love Twin Peaks I’m telling you, play Alan Wake. If the first Alan Wake is like Twin Peaks, Alan Wake 2 is The Return

I will certainly try if possible!
