Having said that Richard Corben was doing painted comics in the 70’s. It’s actually astonishing to look at when you think how tough that had to be for him to do. He also had a digital colouring system which was streets ahead of the curve.

It lends the work a cinematic quality. But, swings and roundabouts, because you lose something astonishing about comics. So…maybe because of MKUltra {my LSD based ogn } I took colours to the max. Now, not sure what’s next…maybe time to dial back.

And then we started seeing more painted colours, painted comics. It also made it easier to create subtle and darker tones without being muddy. Muting cols is a easy way to make the images more serious in tone. It’s strange because as soon as we max freedom with colours, artists shied away.

@floatymingo.bsky.social continuous tone was problematic on those old comics so they tended to be printed with flat colours using masks. Many of my comics have been based on that look. About 1983 it changed, CT printing was easier to do, cheaper. But I love the way cols were done then.

Aha….right. I’m a fan of the colour on the newsprint on early 2000AD. It was surprisingly strong and holds up well. I have number 1 and 2 and several of the early progs. So I am drawn that way…to flat vibrant colour…if you will pardon the awful pun!

I extended it downward on an A2 piece of paper. I’ve always liked the shot from the film & although it has problems Urban’s performance was excellent IMO. He understood the character. However the script lacked the necessary satire for me. #Dredd3D @2000ad.bsky.social #film
