How much easier would it be to eradicate TB if we didn't farm cows?
I literally just finished reading The Sparrow by Mary Russell... no way there's 2 sci-fi duologies with this premise 😂
Probably one of my favorite games ever, enjoy!
Lastly I'll say that this has been an incredibly exciting and rewarding journey, one I hope to continue in a PhD position in the near future. If anyone is aware of opportunities that would be a good fit, please don't hesitate to reach out! #phdpositions
Of course, a HUGE shout-out and thank-you to my advisors at Canisius University's Anthrozoology program, Dr. Joshua Russell and Dr. Kristin Stewart, countless scholars at PAN Works, and my fellow #Anthrozoology students for their support and ongoing feedback on these ideas.
Now, almost 4 years later, I can propose an alternative path that prioritizes precaution and reversibility in interventions to mitigate disease, starvation, #predation, and resultant overpopulation while respecting animals' agency, autonomy, and sense of dignity.
I first became interested in #WildAnimalEthics after reading Kyle Johannsen's book, but I wanted to find if there were approaches to intervention that were less risky and achievable sooner than gene drives, leveraging #ConservationTechnology to better inform these decisions.
In it, I provide an ethical framework for justifying some forms of intervention in wild animals' lives, investigate how we could gain the necessary knowledge to do so safely, and illustrate what respectful, relational participation could look like in the best possible future.
Happy to announce that I've successfully defended my M.S. thesis, "Systems of Care: A Participatory Approach Toward Intervention in Wild Animal Wellbeing".
A public version, as well as the slides from my defense, are now available on my website oscarcourchaine.github.io
