I'm not sure he cares a lot about that IF he likes the race. Look at Lombardia, where there is literally no other favourite and everybody and their dog keeps grumbling about that. But he likes it and enjoys it and he looked really happy there.

yeah but is UAE going to throw the Tour into the nearest bin just because Tadej isn't happy? That's just not gonna happen. And it's also not true that he is complaining all the time, it just came out in a few unguarded ocassions (and back in 2022-2023 ppl attributed it to loser frustration)

Pogi's problem is that UAE spent a lot of money on GC prodigies but none of them has managed to win a GT except for him 🥲

that doesn't apply to the Tour unfortunately. All team owners and sponsors are basically spending money for their team to do well in the Tour, the rest is just feathers in the cap. Tadej wanting to do Roubaix means a big fight with team management every year just bc it puts the TDF a bit at risk.

it's obvious he doesn't enjoy riding it but he still works his ass off to win it. That's all that can be asked of him, you can't force him to like it. If it was another race he'd be allowed to skip it but the Tour is unskippable (which is why Mathieu treated us to 2 years of Doing Nothing in it).

I find it incredible that he gets shit for that instead of praise for his professionalism 😅 To go all in for something he doesn't even like, while the others I mentioned just ignore those parts of cycling or visibly don't take them seriously (not shitting on them, they're 100% entitled to do so)

it's not a honour to be chosen when you're the best rider, it's an obligation.
Also, nobody can be forced to like their job, or like all of it equally. Mathieu doesn't like GTs, Jonas doesn't like classics. What is unusual about this guy is that he's great at stuff he doesn't like.
