But I do find it interesting that you have Max Caster and Anthony Bowens as characters refusing to do what Tony Khan wants. Fits with their storyline recently, I just find it ironic.
You just don't see it a lot in the company. Many talents are just happy to get a paycheck. I don't think either side is wrong here.
It seems to be more of a time-based problem then an overall booking issue. There is an old-school mentality that you did the best with what you have. But there's also something to be said to know when it doesn't work for you.
This leads me to talk about the "controversy" regarding Miranda Alize and Nixon Newel refusing to be used as enhancement talent to put over Anna Jay and Tay Conti in their second appearance for the company.
And I feel like that still stands. But I think there was a feeling even though the matches were solid and the Houston crowd was having a good time, that things do feel a little hollow at times.
Thoughts on #AEWCollision: I have stated the last few weeks, how the company has done a better job of trying to layer stories with the Women's Tag Team Championship Tournament.
The Drew Carey Show it's still so much fun to watch. I think it works just because they were just trying to have fun and it shows.
I don't think last night's episode of SmackDown was particularly strong. But it tried. Stuff just didn't land.
I'll be honest, I am not the biggest fan of the introduction of the National Championship, I respect Tony loves his history from the Crockett years and even going back to Georgia Championship Wrestling. But WWE and AEW have way too many titles in this current era.
I stated before that Tony has done a really good job making Blood and Guts and the Women's Tag Team tournament to tell some really strong stories. Full Gear shaping up to be one of the best because of the stories they're telling going into the show.
It made him feel a little foolish. Nothing too egregious but I just wish it was handled a little bit better. It did give a nice sandwich to the episode with the opening segment and the main event.
I will give Tony Khan this. This week's #AEWDynamite had a really solid structure with the Blood and Guts Advantage Battles. I like the fact they followed up with Samoa Joe story from last week. I wish he didn't it's a quick to anger and put the Trio titles on the line.
I'm sure Ari and the c-suite want to build the other assets into WWE' s media landscape. But that all depends on lightning striking with the right personalities.
I find it very interesting that TKO has made deals with Paramount for UFC, their new boxing endeavor, and now PBR while WWE is propping up all the other assets with all their media deals with Netflix, CW, ESPN, NBC Universal, Fox Etc.
Then the last time they were there for a WWE Supershow with the ticket prices as they are you not seeing that a lot.
I was wondering how a Babyface version of the popular Internet personality would even work. The Women's match is coming together more naturally. Last night's Raw was a bit of a rarity for WWE right now, they actually sold more tickets last night.
Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik especially with the rise, the Intercontinental and AAA Mega Champion has been on could draw a more massive audience. They had me scratching my head with the opening segment with Logan Paul.
You have to think WWE hopes to open up Petco Park a little more for Survivor Series in San Diego. The last time I looked they were at about 30,000 you have to think with wrestling set up, you can do more in that field.
Thoughts on last night's #WWERaw: I thought it was a really good episode establishing the new paradigm with CM Punk as World Heavyweight Champion. They began to put the pieces together for War Games.
It's interesting there was very little of the retro presentation that we have since the reboot. It is now a show on the calendar. Other than the classic ringlike for introductions or main event matches, there wasn't really anything.
I like Wade Barrett here. He did a good job trying to explain that Jey's awkwardness in the match was him trying to be like Roman Reigns, so I think that added a level of storytelling.
As for the main event of the night, CM Punk and Jey Uso and really started rough, but started to really find their groove. I think it was a coin toss on who to put the belt on, but I think Punk with the right call.
Doing a tournament for John Cena's final opponent is an interesting idea. One, it makes it feel a little bit more important. And secondly, it gives you the chance to tell a bunch of stories and potentially hit on something unexpected.
Dominik as a character is so fun to watch. I said this before he's already a Babyface in the eyes of the fans, much in the same way, Eddie Guerrero got over. It feels like the Judgment Day turning on him is coming and it will make me curious to see what they do with Liv Morgan returns.
I thought they told a good story with Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill. I would not be shocked to see Tiffany when the Royal Rumble and build to a rematch with Cargill in Las Vegas.
