Fox hunting is barbaric and needs to be banned, with custodial sentences given to those that continue to do so.
Trail hunting is simply a smoke screen for fox hunting.
I was asked about it on BBC Politics South West and was quite clear that I’ll be pushing Govt to close the trail hunting loophole.
Yesterday I raised with the Sec of State for Health Wes Streeting the issue of the appalling NHS treatment of Amy, who came to my constituency surgery and movingly explained how the NHS had let her down.

I know there are similar failures that have gone on over the years.

We will fix the NHS.
Monday began with an all party meeting at DESNZ offices with Energy Minister Michael Shanks, to discuss the huge potential of geothermal in Cornwall and across the UK.

Then into the Chamber where I successfully ‘bobbed’ on Education Qs.

Then a statement from Home Sec Yvette Cooper.
Please note: The Foreign Office has just updated advice and is now advising against ANY travel to Israel or Palestine.

A very long day Friday began with a 4:45am alarm, and a journey back up London for the 3rd day of the Assisted Dying debate. Many, many amendments are being discussed in detail, in an apolitical debate. I will attend, listen and read as much as I can and make my final decision.
I am a member of the Labour Rural Research Group. I have met several of our local farmers over recent months as well as local reps, the President and Vice President of the NFU. I’m very pleased that they have welcomed the announcement on ELMs in the Spending Review. Here’s the statement:
Interesting new analysis:

- UK’s solar power surges 42% to a new record, after the sunniest spring on record

- For the first time, solar was >10% of UK energy generation in consecutive months (Apr/May 2025)

- in 2025, solar has avoided gas imports that would’ve cost £600m.
Last Thursday was the UK Mining Conference with Cornish Lithium, Cornish Metals, Cornwall Resources and many more. A really important event in the #criticalminerals calendar. So much at stake and so much opportunity for Cornwall if we get this right. First up was Jayne’s speech, then my speech!
Last Wednesday began with a roundtable business breakfast with the solar industry, hearing from Professor Da Silva. Then to the chamber for the Spending Review (see this week’s Voice and Cornishman articles for my take on it!). Than an interview with Lucy at ITV and some #carersweek drop ins.
Exactly what Cornwall needs and what Cornish Labour MPs have been demanding: massive investment in social and truly affordable homes
Yesterday, having unsuccessfully ‘bobbed’ on 4 questions I finally got called to ask my question. After wishing the Speaker a Happy Birthday (in Cornish, of course!) the Energy Minister Michael Shanks offered to meet me to discuss the potential of Geothermal energy from the Great Cornish batholith.
Some big news from DEFRA. This will be hugely advantageous to the vast majority of Cornish fishing fleet, as they are not bottom trawlers.
I know this isn’t top of everyone’s agenda, but ensuring the Cornish Language is afforded the same status as the other four UK Celtic languages to me and many others. Over the last few months, I’ve contributed to debates, written parliamentary questions and written directly to Ministers.
After a constituency surgery Saturday morning at Redruth Community Centre it was off to Fore St for the #murdochday parade led by Tolgus, then the unveiling of the World Origin Site plaque at Murdoch House - a great honour.

Pioneers such as Murdoch and Trevithick are so important today.
Here’s seven things the Labour Government has delivered this week:
Royal Cornwall Show last Friday with excellent meetings with NFU VP David Exwood along with NFU Mutual Central Cornwall rep Andrew Richards and colleagues about a range of topics.
Also spoke to Jeremy Wrathall from Cornish Lithium at the CLA tent and Julie Skentelbury from BBC Radio Cornwall
🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Vast majority of new build homes to be fitted with solar panels as standard 🚨
🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Labour Govt ban unfair bonuses for polluting water bosses 🚨

- Labour Govt’s new Water Act will ban unfair bonuses for 6 water companies with immediate effect

- Under Conservatives, water bosses awarded themselves £112m in bonuses

- More updates on more water companies soon.

South West has the highest sickness absence in the country. We need to be providing all the support needed to get people out of sickness and back to work.
Thursday morning in Westminster and two Commons Chamber questions: one about UK’s critical mineral production resilience and the other about a new report showing South West has the highest work sickness rates in the country. Then on the train home, following up on actions from a busy last 3 days.
Ahead of this week’s Spending Review, last week BBC Spotlight News picked up on my Westminster Hall speech about ensuring remote coastal areas like Cornwall, with higher levels of poverty, are recognised with fairer funding.
This is simply huge news: millions of the poorest parents and children will begin to benefit from free school meals. Children with full tummies can concentrate for longer, learn more easily and achieve better outcomes. This is why I am a Labour MP.

Busy Wednesday last week. First a breakfast #geothermal meeting with @jaynekirkhammp.bsky.social & @noahlawmp.bsky.social. Then into a Westminster Hall debate (see previous posts). Then PMQs and a quick drop in to see Penpol School followed by several drop in meetings on a range of topics.
