When I was a child we had a little sheepdog & we’d take her. She’d spend the whole day running backwards & forwards, ensuring nobody got lost, having the time of her life.

Instead of a christening, my friend’s grandson had a welcoming ceremony. My friend- who is very Zen- thought the celebrant was useless & hissed at me “£200! Money for old rope.”

I wonder how many people come back for the cold water swim?
Don’t tell anyone, but my old fella has bought me a dry robe for my swims in Colwick lake. I have threatened to wear it to Meadow Lane, my granddaughter is horrified at the prospect.

It’s lovely and the dogs are having fun. I don’t mind swimming with swans( in a lake, not a lido) but not dogs.

At the end of the summer season Cheltenham Lido drains down the pool and re-fills for winter cold water swimming. But before that, they open it to dogs for the weekend. It's Mabel's favourite day of the year.
