In summary, trick questions have a purpose and can be good, but (like with everything) used too much can lead to disastrous results.
Also, I really didn't appreciate that prison or military bit.
The purpose of putting such questions is to make students know their answers and read the questions.
I don't want students to answer basing on vibes and the fact that in an ABCD task there hasn't been a C for a long time.
So, you put me and other teachers onto one bag because you had a horrible experience with one representative of the profession? I don't appreciate that.
I agree that making every question a trick one is evil, but that's not what the majority of teachers do.
As an English teacher, I use trick questions for two reasons:
One, to make people read the instructions and the test itself carefully. It's so frequent that people think they know what the task is about just by looking at it.
Two, is to be an asshole and have some fun.
