My Letter to the Editor about working with a disability, and having the supports you need, appeared in the Irish Examiner today. Not only that it was mentioned on Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio 1. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🇮🇪 #speirgorm #spéirghorm

Letters to the Editor: My disability doesn’t stop me working, the State does
One reader writes in to say that the array of disabilities means the State is in no way capable of the nuance necessary to deal with the breadth of issues people face

I really enjoyed Trudi Canavan when I was younger.

I really feel like she was so far ahead of the curve with what was coming from 'New Adult' style SFF. She got there before the industry even realised it was a thing.

I ate dinner a few hours ago. Too big a dinner. I was stuffed to the point of unwell. Now I'm hungry again. Bodies need to learn a little respect.

Nice photo choice. Obviously the "Imperial" Hotel in the background.

Good little nod to what these fuckers politics are.

Even Covid didn't get my Da to do the shopping, thankfully. He'd feck the whole thing up whereas me and me Mam have a grand time wandering around Aldi and chatting. I can get more back to my place with her car, as well.

The Big Shop? It's more like The Big Day Out!

Want to see Catherine Connolly's road bowling skills. She's had a go at everything else.

New Irish Presidential Pentathlon.

Picture from Cork City, from about ten years ago. I think it was taken between Kent train station and the dock area by the quay. 🍦🐈
A red warning sign on a temporary metal fence, in front of some old, run down brickwork and orange, old window in the background. The warning sign says, "No Unauthorised Access," and obscures some graffiti of what gives the impression of a cat in blue shoes eating an ice-cream cone.

Fully predict in seven (fourteen?) years time future presidential candidates will be asked about their keepie uppies.

The only thing they deserve invading over is what they've done to the honest community dive bar.

Meanies by name. Meanies by the price of a "sharing" bag going up all the time!

My Cork Bike Scheme photo that, last I heard, was hanging in the National Transport Authority offices.

I was given a €500 gift voucher for this and for the NTAs usage of my photos from this shoot on "socials" and in their annual report. Unfortunately some media companies are less honest. #SpeirGorm
A photo of the Cork Public Bike Scheme. Shot from a low position, through the frames of a series of bikes in their stands. After the row of bikes is a display board with the words, "CORK WALKS" on it. And after that, framed in the window of Cork Coffee Roasters is a couple sharing a chat over a coffee in the café.

This may be my conspiracy brain but surely FF are deliberately throwing the Presidential election. Like... Seriously?

God only knows what FG are up to. Probably something with AI, data centres and Uisce Eireann water waste given the level of soul and empathy on show.

If this is the level of politicians available it's no wonder Coveney fucked off for easy street after negotiating Brexit. There's some clatter of losers who want free match tickets on show.

And what's worse is Gavin would likely have no problem getting an All Ireland ticket 🇮🇪 #speirgorm #spéirghorm

The Leisureplex (The Coliseum) in Cork, a number of years ago. Just given planning permission to be turned into a hotel.

It's desperate that semi-delinquent teens, today, have no smokey, Lynx smelling pool halls filled with Puzzle Bobble, Time Crisis and DDR arcade machines.

A colour photograph of the Leisureplex (aka The Coliseum) in Cork.

The predominant colour in the photograph is blue, with a pale and darker blue. The photograph emphasises rectangular geometric patterns, including the small, old windows which are thin and run high in the building. There is also red and white stripes on the building, which is emphasised by a light grey footpath, tall grey lamppost, red and white traffic separator and red cycle path.

There is a lot of "perpendicularity" to the photo and the geometry is the focus along with the blocks of colour. A sign for the Leisureplex is cut off with text readable of "7 Days - Late."

Connolly the clear winner in that by virtue of being the only one who isn't a complete pain in the fucken hole. 🇮🇪🍑

In the distant future there'll be psionic leaders micro-dosing 20th and 21st century brain worms to help them lead their worlds.

A photo of the lower half of a man in tracksuit pants and runners, and red top, at night, standing next to a sign that says, "Snack B - buy 1 get - Free - 12 - 7p."

The footpath is paved and there's marks from chewing gum being thrown on the ground and walked in.

For the day that's in it, with Storm Amy. ☔

Taken about ten years ago on George's Quay, outside the Intreo Office, in Cork.
A black and white photo on a wet street, in the rain. Three people feature, one standing at the back right looking at a woman with an umbrella. Her face is obscured by the tilt of the small, light-coloured umbrella held against the rain. On the left of the picture is a man with messenger back looking determined against the weather.

Posted an excerpt from my trans fiction novel. This featuring something based on a real life experience where a man said he'd pray for me to get pregnant 🏳️‍⚧️🤣 and to keep trying. ☑️ Fair enough! Good advice! 🇮🇪

The old FÁS building in Cork. Knocked ten(?) years ago, with lots of plans from BAM (who else?)

The site has been sitting empty for an age, with nothing looking like it's happening. This after Sample Studios, an arts group using part of the building, were kicked out for "Construction."

#SpéirGhorm
A picture of a statue/sculpture/monument with lamposts around it, a carving of a man looking out. An actual human is standing next to it, looking at it.

In the background, and the equal level focus of the photo, is a brutalist building, roughly eight storeys tall at its highest level, five storeys at the lower level.

The photo is in black and white.

Two sections on RTÉ1 Liveline over the past week on Disability.

Said to a friend it feels like a flame's been lit when it comes to disabilities and that I played a part in it with my Letter to the Editor.

He said "Now pour some petrol on it!"🔥

It's incredibly draining, tho🌈 #SpeirGorm #SpéirGhorm
A Letter to the Editor in the printed copy of the Irish Examiner from the 19th September 2025.

The headline reads, "My disability doesn't stop me working — State does."

I can understand the vibes. An important person goes absolutely loopy in your life and you try to get past the hate and wish, really wish, they'd get some proper, serious help with their issues.

Happens all the time on personal levels. The difference is this is splashed all over the media.
