I call it "beneficial friction", the idea that games should have some things that honestly just kinda suck for the player or look kinda objectively bad on paper because those things create mental sticking points, personal stories, opinions.

IIRC it's got that Shyamalan clunkiness but it does actually come together. whether or not you like what it comes together into is a different question

when I last replayed it, I was struck by how little of the series is about the final all-important question that it poses at the end: "can/should synthetic life co-exist alongside natural life?"
