...and eating fast food in all its forms, what my parents would constantly call junk food, as opposed to eating home cooked meals with fresh produced picked the day before being sold at town and city markets. The wet market still holds 25% of Philippine retail (50% in sari-sari stores and talipapa).

There's a certain level of Westernization going on in Philippine food culture, but I think people, esp the Manila middle class and white tourists, exaggerate it. There's a certain level of cultural resistance in the Philippines against processed food...

Philippines' fertility rate crashes further to around 1.5 after falling to 1.9 around 3 years ago. I wonder if we're going to reach Thailand, maybe even Korean levels of childlessness.
