It's time for another spooky themed infocard! Today we're learning about the Futakuchi-onna - the lady with two months. (Don't worry, we'll be talk about another weird mouth lady pretty soon as well 😉)

●The woman with two mouths! This creepy Yokai is often seen with a second, wickedly fanged mouth on the back of her head
●Technically they are actually just women who have been afflicted with a curse
●The origin of the second mouth comes from the idea of women who starve themselves, so the new mouth is voracious

All this talk of ghosts is starting to make the puppy feel a little creeped out! Ghost movies are pretty scary to me. But if you want a GREAT movie about a ghost, you should absolutely check out 2024's The Presence. The entire movie is told from the ghost's point of view. A+++

The world of the Edo period pleasure quarters probably felt a lot like it was Halloween every single day! Kabuki has always been a great way to convey horror - high spectacle and really advanced theatrical techniques! Lots I could say more about Kabuki - maybe a future lesson??

Today we're learning about Ichikawa Danjūrō VIII:
●It’s hard to talk about ghost stories without also thinking about Kabuki, as these visually stimulating stage shows were a great way to showcase the weird and mysterious
●Ishikawa Danjūrō VIII was just one Kabuki actor in the very well known Ishikawa line
●After immersing himself in a barrel of water in one Kabuki scene, the water he bathed himself in was sold to his female fans!

The whole vibe I wanted to create with this Influencial Figures in Japanese History project was to talk about interesting figures from Japan that impacted culture in some meaningful way.

Can a fictional ghost have such an impact? I say yes!
