Purdue CCE faculty member and esteemed civil engineering historian Paul Giroux unveiled his latest research, “Building the Forth Bridge,” with CCE earlier this week. Completed in 1890, the Forth Bridge was a seminal achievement in the advancement of steel cantilever bridges. 🌉

The primary objective of this project is to upgrade specific sections of the bridge to increase its load capacity to meet HS-15 standards and to protect existing structural members vulnerable to future deterioration.

This center provides engineers with valuable opportunities for hands-on training and innovative research. The visit was an excellent way to prepare students for their senior design project: the rehabilitation of the Indiana Highway 225 Bridge over the Wabash River.
