this is besides the fact none of the proposed alternatives really capture the specifics of what a metroidvania is in the first place

if i heard someone say "search action" and didnt know what a metroidvania was why would i assume they mean smth like metroid and not banjo-kazooie or skyrim

i also just feel like it's a weird way to look at genres in general, like nobody's getting into metal because they on their own are like "i want to listen to hard rock music with loud screeching guitars", people get into metal cause they hear slayer or w/e and are like "holy fuck"
