I don't really have much else but all I can think about is Mo holding Krill to his chest and biting back all his sobs on the first loop because Krill is alive and fine and that's all he wanted

I love Mo/Krill so much so so much Mo will fight his way through timeloop hell for Krill

The loop breaks, finally, finally, and while they still have most certainly lost the ritual, Mo has Krill, so they can rebuild again. They can make it work - and Mo finally crawls out of the rubble with Krill coughing but alive.

it turns out, Pocket survived, too - thanks to their satchel.

Krill finally learns about Paradox's deal, and urges Mo to give her the copy of his his work. He can always write another one - he wants Mo to rest, finally, please. Mo doesn't argue, but Paradox makes good on her deal - she misses shots, giving them enough time and health to survive the ritual.

Krill does scold him, of course. He never wanted Mo to suffer like this, to put himself into this kind of harm, but he knows why Mo did it.

Mo was never going to chose to live without Krill. He was always going to willingly walk into hell for him. That's how Mo is.

He feels Mo squeeze him close, tight, like in a relief that Krill has never seen him do before. The never shed tears of relief that Krill's body hasn't gone cold, that Krill reaches out for him, that he's still here and alive and Mo knows he's got another chance.

It's the reassurance searching.

Krill figures him out after about... 30-40 loops. It's not the unexplained scars and bruises, it's not the jumpiness, the reaction times to things Mo couldn't see, the knowledge of things he shouldn't know...

It's the day Mo returns to the start of the loop, that Krill knows what's happening.

During these loop, Paradox interjects. A member of the enemy team, she offers a deal - Mo gives up Krill's only copy of his memoir, and she'll pull the strings a bit.

As all of this happens, Krill's suspicions, Paradox's deal, Mo starts to realize more and more that the only way out...

But the damage doesn't heal. Krill notices things changing - new scars under Mo's fur, and the utter exhaustion Mo seems to constantly be carrying on his shoulders. Mo doesn't address it. Why would he? Krill would be livid that Mo's done this, especially because Mo's hurting for him.

Of course, Mo is mute - he cannot tell anyone what happens, but that's okay. What matters is he finds a way out. He just has to make sure Krill can live the ritual and everything will be fine.

The loops rip at Mo more and more. Wrong calls, mistakes, the enemy seems to know his every move...

Mo loops back to the start. The rules include that Mo must ensure Krill survives the ritual - Opting out is against the rules and will cause the entire thing to loop again.

Mo doesn't even consider the option more than the baseline.

Like he always does, Mo chooses Krill, and willing walks in.

The winning Patron takes notice, and high off its power, decides to torment the lone survivor of the ritual and offers a game. Mo goes back to three days before the ritual. If Mo can ensure Krill lives, then the loop will be broken, and they'll be free to go. If Krill dies again before that time...

Krill isn't breathing. In that twist of fate, Krill lost his life from the damage, leaving Mo as the only survivor in an event that should have killed everyone. Anguished, Mo mourns atop the rubble, holding Krill as he weeps. Life could never be fair to them, could it?

Mo wraps himself around Krill as the building comes down, trying to protect Krill from the damage. He lives, by some twist of fate, and digs his way out of the rubble with Krill cradled in his arm - he can't feel Krill's breath. Mo starts to panic as he continues to try and push his way free.

At the end of the ritual, the losing patron explodes, taking its entire base with it - the reality warping power of the losing Patron being ejected back to its home plane causes the surrounding building to collapse, bringing the entire thing down on everyone inside - the winning team is warped away.

So how this starts is Mo and Krill's team loses the ritual. The winning Patron doesn't really matter for this, but when I originally started writing the idea, the winning patron was the Amber Hand, but both work since it's the same scenario either way.
