(meant to reply to this last night) I did exactly zero research so I'm delighted that my instincts were right.

That said, I dunno, vibe check is that it feels like a lot of depictions of magic are very force-like. Taking some action to demonstrate the spell/force/bending is being controlled.

I guess it just feels a bit Star Wars seeing a sword person close their eyes and call forth some sort of spell. Movies have characters make big movements and such. Maybe I'm off base but doesn't it kind of feel star wars when someone raises their hand mid combat and does something miraculous.
