Missing the gay part, but I'm looking forward to reading Gilded Rage by Jacob Silverman on the tech fascist class. I think it just released a couple weeks ago. I've liked his other work.
I'm not saying that. I don't think the researchers would do this if they didn't think of the subjects as less than. I just don't think they did it as part of a broader plot to drive trans people away from the hospital. I don't think that much thought went into it. In some ways, makes it worse.
As someone who works at a large hospital, I really doubt this. There are just stupid and self centered researchers and hospitals with poor data controls. I doubt it was a broader conspiracy, or that the researchers were thinking of anyone other than themselves.
I worked there right before the takeover. It was pretty obvious that they're using it as a dumping ground for patronage jobs for DeSantis cronies who get forced out of state government. That's where the money is going. It's not going to last once he's term limited out.
Having lived through that experience, I have found watching broader higher education make the *exact same* mistake so frustrating. They learned *nothing.* They are still learning nothing. Hiding doesn't work. Making deals doesn't work. You just get kicked more. (3/n)
Of course, what the governor realized was that NCF was weak. It had never really been financially viable in it's entire history. Easy to pick off. So he went for it first.
But it was easier for people to hope that if they were quiet enough the monster wouldn't notice them. (2/n)
I remember being at faculty meetings at New College of Florida right before the right wing takeover. It was obvious what was coming. People would suggest we should do something, speak out against DeSantis, and the response was that we were so small, let that come from UF. (1/n)
Wondering what "negative" stories the Secretary of Interior order 3431 erases from public view? A #SaveOurSigns volunteer captured these before and after images from #NPS site Muir Woods in California.
