The third time she came in, I asked softly, “Is he in a lot of pain?”
She nodded and said, “Yes.” Then she finished her work and left.
When she came back again later, she smiled gently and said, “Hi, how are you doing, lovely?”

I was already in tears by then. The second time the nurse came in, I saw her approaching and quickly tried to wipe my face, but she noticed. She didn’t say anything — just did her work, taking some samples, and left quietly. 🧵

I couldn’t see him through the curtains, but I could hear everything — his coughing, his breath struggling between words, the questions about smoking and drinking. His daughter tried to explain things gently, but his answer never changed: “Yes… I want to live.” 🧵
