I only wish that @alivitali.bsky.social followed up with that completely logical response.

Who among us could possibly know why she left? It will likely remain an unsolvable mystery but rest assured it has *nothing* to do with Bari Weiss!

I don't understand how Trump and Vance consistently make racist statements (or condone or minimize others who do) and that it has resulted in an "increase" in votes they received from Blacks and Latinos. These people must either be completely oblivious or filled with self-loathing.

One of the ways to help them not get more recruits is to stigmatize ICE and the people in it. No violence, but refer to them constantly as cowards and losers (which they are). Shame and ridicule every single one of them.

It didn't help that increasing numbers of Blacks and Latinos also voted for Trump, despite the fact that anyone paying attention could see how destructive he would be. A collective American failure (but you're right - mostly white people).

Except that millions of American voters are *perfectly fine* with people like Davis. Just look at Sefanik, who became *more* popular when she became less serious and more like Trump. The creepiness of millions of American voters (many of them in rural places) is an untold story in 2025 America.

It doesn't get said enough that some academic administrators in red states *like* what Trump is doing and will use it to cut programs they never wanted anyway.

Trump 2.0 is a real object lesson in how one's immediate successors as president shape the legacy of the prior office holder. I would argue Biden did a great many important things as president, but he didn't accomplish the most important thing - preventing Trump from ever holding office again.

So glad to hear that Susan Collins has concerns.

You couldn't pay me enough to live in a red state now. Even purple states are problematic. Thankful I live in a sane, blue state where we have our share of wackos, but nearly to the extent red states do.

If he was really pragmatic he would simply call himself a New-Deal type Democrat.

What a shocker that a disgraced journalist will exploit her own ethical failures to make a buck. Anyone who buys that book is only reinforcing Nuzzi's own narcissism.

Last time: Yes, many youth don't like centrists. So what? Most of the time youth voting is well below every other age group, which not only votes more often than young people but also tends to be more centrist. And yes - Obamas WAS centrist (far more so than Biden).

Nice job, but I hope you are not too banged up and wishing you a speedy recovery. (I realize the only time anyone ever uses the word "speedy" is when it precedes the word "recovery.")
ratherreadabook.bsky.social
LOL - you mean centrists like, say, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama - the last two Democrats who got elected president? They may not like "centrists" but millions of others do - and they vote in much higher numbers than young people do.

Goofy losers only get elected when there are enough other goofy losers who vote for them.
ratherreadabook.bsky.social
Yes, but that is NYC. Which is fine. But *nationally* Trump won both white men *and* white women and made gains with young Blacks and Latinos. That's a problem!

This article should be required reading for anyone thinking about getting a Ph.D. in history and who desires a career in academia. Or, they could just read your three words and save themselves the trouble.
ratherreadabook.bsky.social
Donald Trump is president (again) and got more of the "youth vote" in 2024 than he got in 2016.
ratherreadabook.bsky.social
Talk with more older people, who vote at much higher rates than younger people.

I like Mamdani, but someone needs to tell him (although it's probably too late now) that describing himself as a "democratic socialist" is not a good idea. Lots of people (and not just Republicans) have an instinctual and negative reaction to that word, even if they don't understand it.

Reminder that the majority of white women voters voted for Trump rather than Harris, despite Trump being caught on tape saying "grab her by the p....." and multiple sexual assault convictions. It's not just American men that are the problem; it's also American (white) women.

No group is more cowardly or cares less about the humiliation of their own colleagues than the White House press corp.
ratherreadabook.bsky.social
Trump appeals to millions of people not *despite* what he says or does (like his demeaning comments about women and his behavior toward them) but rather *because* of it. And it doesn't help that the majority of white women voters voted for this guy.

Getting real tired of people who voted for Trump saying "I didn't expect this." Really? Why not? He has talked openly, and constantly, about ending the ACA. These people are just showing they are low information voters and now we are all paying for it.
