Black-and-white photograph of a World War I memorial at a rural crossroads, with trees and an auto-repair shop in the background, alll under a hazy sky. Shot in the style of the great Laurence Aberhart, but not nearly as good.
Try YA as well, stuff like Charlie Jane Anders’ “Victories Greater Than Death”.

Black-and-white photograph of a sculpture of a stylised panda bear fashioned from sheet metal, seated atop a square pillar in a waterfront square under a hot, cloudy sky.

Black-and-photograph of an urban alleyway with a stylised mural of three men painted over multiple surfaces, lending an intriguing smoothing an unifying affect to a deeper chaos.
I moved halfway around the planet to Aotearoa in part to avoid this kind of embarrassment, yet here we are, and have been several times in the intervening decades.
Have just watched the Orbit commercial for the first timw and am … changed.
Me, either, but there are extremely smart people who could figure it out if the political will was there. And if the political will wasn’t for sale, of course.

It’s been done before. This is what historians and policy experts are for, again, provided they’re not for sale.
That’s a start. Wealth redistribution ain’t easy, but it’s possible and it’s necessary.

Unprocessed iPhone photograph of an urban intersection at night. The foreground is dominated by a post with a gold sticker reading “Landlord Neutral 2030”. Amen.
You are correct; Facebook is terrible.
That transphobic scumbag should just do the right thing and retire.

Black-and-white photograph of a Victorian-era building reflected in a water feature, lightly ruffled by the breeze.
“Minister’s Office is calling”.
I am an immigrant from the US and could not agree more. I’ve lived on stolen land for my entire life, but acknowledgement of this fact is far more a part of public life here. For the sake of justice and vibrancy, Aotearoa should be MORE visibly Māori and Polynesian, not less.
Te Aro, 2023 - bonus for #BlueSkyArtShow #glow
Oversaturated photograph of a fountain in an urban square, the white plasterwork glowing green from lights in the water.

Black-and-white photograph of a wall next to a roller door along a street in a light-industrial area. A hand-painted advertisement reads “SANTA-LAND: DWARFS WANTED!”, under which someone has finger-painted “or dwarves”. I have to admire the grammar-related grind on show here.
Goddamn shame about Pennywize not getting the votes. We need more actual clowns and less metaphorical clowns in politics. Also, more actual swamps.

Cannot believe people still voted for that asshat.
Te Whanganui-a-Tara will miss you. Tēnā rawa atu koe. Kia kaha.
