rating all the cdramas that i've watched:
falling into you — 炽道 9/10

wang an yu carried, but good warm show, easy to watch.
falling into you 9/10

watched because i liked wang anyu, and liked it more than I expected. maybe i'm biased but i think WAY acts well. I think he's believable as an idealistic 20 year old, and the youthful energy of dyc was contagious. perhaps because i am the exact demographic of the female
plot along. see dyc moving overseas because of some bad press especially. the sole reason was to introduce dyc and ln's father and nothing else.

although in all cdramas there is something about plot to nitpick unfortunately. i think this is one of the better produced cdramas that i have watched.
i don't know anything about track and field, but i felt that as much as the show tried to make the sports as realistic as possible, it felt to me that the decision to switch dyc between the various track and field categories wasn't super compelling to me, and it felt like it was there to move the
protagonist, i could follow perfectly well with the emotions of the show.

i think female lead wasn't the most convincing to me that she was into dyc, although i guess it is a tough line to draw between when to be a professional coach and when to be girlfriend.

it's crazy that zhaolusi is not first billing in love like the galaxy when cheng shaoshang was very much the soul of the whole show. wu lei was nothing but another person that let cheng shaoshang down.
the romance of tiger and rose — 传闻中的陈芊芊 8/10

fun heartwarming, a little feminism 101 but it's fine. characters are really easy to root for. good.
the romance of tiger and rose 8/10

maybe i do care about politics when it's women doing the fighting. i see why this series is so popular. it's fun, lighthearted; the characters are easy to root for. compared to usual dramas about men and politics among men, this show is distinctively different.
overall, very fun and heartwarming, i see why it was so popular.
at times to see a painting of a female general on the wall, or to see a full court of only female officials. subconsciously i find myself thinking that they don't have the aura that generals or court officials should have and wow such prejudice to have. just shows how rare these scenes are in cdrama
and lastly, i wished chenxiaoqian was given the opportunity to rewrite her script to showcase all the things that she had learnt, that would have been cool.

i thought the complete flipping of the gender roles was very fresh for me. even though i understand the concept, it was still a bit jarring-
i don't really like plots where people accidentally succeed with a lot of luck and help from other people. while there were moments before, like when she cared about human life, i only started to root for the character a lot more when she started to participate in the politics.
how they get characters in and out of situations, could be a little more complex i think.

i think the show started to pick up for me when chenqianqian started to take herself seriously (even though i was slightly confused about her motivations to suddenly honour her junior city leader position)
the acting was pretty amateur, i understand why people would say zls is a little flat if you only watched her earlier shows. (thank god she's so much better now) dingyuxi is decent and the lady that played chuchu was good too.

i wished the plot was a little smarter, it was a little simplistic,
it was a little frustrating for me to see how useless chen qianqian sometimes, although in hindsight a modern person would be pretty useless in that setting. perhaps her modern-ness could be clearer.

sometimes she is downright dumb, like the arc with meng guo and i really struggled to watch.
i think characterisation can be more consistent. i think sometimes they sacrifice plot and characterisation for the sake of comedy.

most of the appeal of a time travel show to me, is the dynamic between the knowledge of the future vs the ways of the past. this was not showcased at all.

when i fly towards you — 当我飞奔向你 5/10

snapshot of life type show but the execution felt a bit lacking
when i fly towards you 5/10

this is a very popular show so i had high expectations when i started it. but i just thought it was a little slow and unrelatable for me. maybe it's the fact that the characters are meant to be 16 for the major part of the show and i am decidedly way past that.
took me out of what little immersion i had.

i also felt zero butterflies when watching this show and that's a shame. the whole show just felt very flat for me.
this could be realistic for the chinese audience, but it read as very forced for me.

when time finally started moving, it was too rushed for me, and i couldn't really feel the passing of time, whether it's visually or behaviourally. they all looked the same whether they were 16 or 25, and it
a snapshot of these students' day to day life, but the execution was just kind of mid. i think having the students be 16, and wanting them to both show the development of the romantic relationship, and be culturally correct where they can only date at 18, was a mistake.
the main one. i thought the grandmother and guanfang's storyline was good, but i just felt that that storyline was too separate and they could completely cut out that storyline without impacting the story.

i see the vision of the show - it's meant to be something like hospital playlist where it's
like it was realistic, and i could probably see that happening in real life, but it just wasn't enough to keep my attention. it's possible that i didn't find the way the female lead clung onto the male lead particularly romantic. in fact i thought the secondary love story was more compelling than
i thought the acting was passable, nothing too compelling. the male lead was easier to watch but it's probably because his character was meant to be stoic. he was a little lacking when he had to show more emotion than a blank face and smiles. i thought the romance plot was a little too simple.
