Legislative advocacy is a major part of transit choice. Today's challenge is to email your elected officials why you personally care about safer streets and/or frequent transit. Tell your story and ask for an improvement, like a 25 MPH on your street or 15 minute bus service along your route.

People biking and a bus witn a graphic that reads “sustainability isn’t just about recycling or reducing emissions. It’s also about how we take care of ourselves and the systems that support us.” Person holding a sign that says “I would bike to work but I don’t feel safe on south Ave” Two people holding signs. One says “I want to ride the bus downtown but I can’t because there’s no service in W Henrietta”

The other says “I love riding RTS because it’s cheap and reliable and I like the app”

“The trio takes 18-20 minutes and allows me to hear the birds, get a bit of sunshine on my face and avoid the line of cars backed up…”

“I head to MCC in the morning, walking to a nearby bus stop along N Goodman. I take the 6, then the 13 (this route gets PACKED, I’m shocked it doesn’t run every 15 minutes).” “Mixed use buildings are the way to go! Two of the five places I went were such in the same building as another one of my destinations.”

“I biked to the grocery store to get a few things for dinner and wondered why more people didn’t do the same…With the right planning, it’s actually easy and fun!” “I walked to Tru Yoga, did a class, and picked up groceries on the way home for a little over a two mile walk. It was a slightly longer trip but I didn’t have to park, and the weather was nice. I wish I had something to carry my yoga mat with, though, as it was unwieldy to carry.”

“Home Depot on Portland Ave. was very tricky, but I managed it!” Graphic of phones showing maps with bike routes on them.

"This is a big opportunity to correct [the myth] that people who don't drive are [living] some sort of fringe lifestyle — that not having access to a car is something that only hippies do, or pp who are obsessed w/ biking.. there's a lot of nuance [here]" www.nrdc.org/resources/wh...
