I like that the first Godzilla movie was fairly "realistic" but increasingly Japan has to deal with fairies, women from Venus, and Godzilla hurling rocks at various other monsters.

I recognized the name McMurdo from McMurdo Station in Antarctica. So I looked it up and that was named after Archibald McMurdo who was a Scottish naval officer and explorer. One of the things he did was save some shipwrecked whalers so I'm assuming for now it's a deliberate reference!

the CGI ships are really distracting to me mostly because it feels like they move too smoothly, but the hand drawn robots make up for it because they look so good

I will be **shocked** if this comparison has been made before. But it reminds me a lot of an old 80s game called H.E.R.O. where you played a guy with a jetpack spelunking through different underground rooms and dodging bugs, and which always fascinated me when I was really little

Recently I've been playing Hollow Knight (the original) and I am VERY bad at it because I am Not Good at platform/action games but I have been playing it a lot because it's a joy to run around the world. It has a "I am kid and going outside to play" quality to it.
