Now that I'm officially over it, here's a achilles tendonitis photo, when it was fresh from 300km Northern Traverse. Some things learned:
1) recovery is slow, steady, and not linear. Stay patient.
2) using it helps, as long as pain stays below 3 out of 10.
3) specific exercises (heel lifts) help too
Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine has got to be up there. Particularly if youve been ignoring your physiotherapist recently...
Another one from last weekend and Lakes in a Day - very unusual to have such amazing weather in October, and a delight to coincide with race day. Last time this was sideways rain and wading through an expanded Windermere. #running #ultra #fellrunning #runchat
Blencathra summit, looking south towards the Helvellyn range, on the Lakes in a Day 50 mile mountain ultra yesterday #running #trailrunning #fellrunning #runsky
Ill Bell in the Lakes, one of the best little summits on a great ridge. 34km today from Ambleside. Feeling good after a big 7 days and back to back long fell days. Taper time now ahead of the epic that is Lakes in a Day. #running #fellrunning #trailrunning #runsky
Lingy Hut in the northern fells, view down towards Mosedale, towards the end of a circuit of the Caldew Valley. #running #fellrunning #trailrunning #runsky
Beautiful day in the Lakes today - a 38km circuit of the Caldew valley, aka Back o' Skidda. Apart from the obvious honeypots of Blencathra and Skiddaw, a quiet area with great views to Scotland and the Pennines. #fellrunning #trailrunning #running #runsky
A break from running at the weekend - instead a wet weather camping trip with my eldest daughter, and took a trip to Cathedral Quarry in Little Langdale - stunning, and she loved practising taking photos...
Nice long run today sticking to the high ground around the near part of the Peak District - using some of the routes of the Kinder Trog and Bullock Smithy race routes. 45km and around 1500m ascent. #trailrunning #running #ultra #runsky
Love the sight of an easy, grassy, downhill trail taking you where you want to go, on a sunny day! Home-made trail marathon route around some of my favourite local hills, western Peak District. #running #runsky #trailrunning
On a Dad & daughters camping trip up in the Lakes - so not a running week but getting some glorious views on shorter walks while dodging the rain!
Rounding out the Cornwall trip with a run up the tough Bude-Hartland section of the SW Coast Path, over the frontier into Devon, round the corner to Clovelly. Stunning on the W-facing coastline, more pastoral for a while then lovely woodland approaching Clovelly. #running #trailrunning #ultra
SW coast path - a run from Boscastle to our base at Widemouth Bay - about 25km with plenty of ascent - clocked around 1,500m! That's like a category A fell race without ever getting more than 200m above sea level. #trailrunning #running
I wonder what's around that corner... Oh look, another drop to almost sea level and re-ascent! The lesson of the SW coast path is that any bit you can't see hides a steep cove like this. #trailrunning
Cornishcoast path - beautiful running, often tough, generally a surprise around every corner (usually a steep up and down). Pic is one of the easier sections into Bude. #running #trailrunning
Great day out yesterday on the Borrowdale Watershed - a 50km route around the valley with 3,000m elevation. Superb views into many corners of the Lake District. Really busy west of the valley, hardly a soul on the marshy east side. #running #fellrunning #ultrarunning

A write-up of a 57 mile traverse of the Bannau Brycheniog (Brecon Beacons) from a few weeks ago, for those who enjoy reading fairly long blog posts about fairly long runs. Also, sheep on the line and a lady of the lake.
Bannau Brycheniog - Targetultra.com
This was a multi-purpose run, to meet a few aims… The journey down involved changing at Shrewsbury to access the “Heart of Wales” line to Swansea, via a lot of small towns and tiny villages. The scene...

Taking "road support" in its broadest sense... well I started at a road. Lovely views once the morning clag cleared, supporting a Fleetwood Lakes 40 round #running #fellrunning
Room with a view - waiting for Ben to appear on his Fleetwood Lakes 40 round - a quieter (and less eroded) alternative to the Bob Graham Round. Well worth considering for those looking for a challenge, without adding to BG traffic.

Good luck, it's a scorcher!
Lovely run overnight Monday and through Tuesday, crossing the Bannau Brycheniog between Ammanford and Abergavenny. #runsky #trailrunning
Lovely 10k trail run last night, leading a group of relative newcomers to off-road running. #trailrunning #running #runsky
Lovely local run around Werneth Low, Cown Edge and Lantern Pike. Managed about 12 units/hr for over 3hrs (1 unit = 1km or 100m vert) - the recovery continues! Also made myself useful by taking the car to the garage #runsky #trailrunning #running
A few more pics from the trails of #lefkada. My route around Skaros mountain (home of the Daleks?) involved a troublesome disappearing path - whereas a lower level route on the hillside above Nidri was far more runnable. #running #trailrunning
Yes it is stunning, but pretty hard work getting around!
