Classic blunder, right up there with going up against a Sicilian when death is on the line.

Since it's Black Speculative Fiction Month, I thought I'd share a story I love by a Black author each day. Since I'm starting 10 days in, I'll post a bunch to catch up. I'm going to do 15 from the Top 80 of Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy and 15 from Lightspeed/Nightmare.

If you have a thing you keep mulling over, coming back to, wondering about, thinking you’ve decided to let go but it keeps coming up…do it.

That calls for a full yurt, or one of those big canvas Renfaire tents

Clearly this kitten is helping me write by sitting on my lap, ensuring that I have to stay here and make words rather than go clean the kitchen or something. Such a helpful kitty!

I had a conversation with a cab driver in Italy last year who had been to the U.S. several times and observed that American drivers didn’t seem very aware of the space our own vehicles take up. Thinking he might’ve had a point.

Not looking for solutions here. I know how to track down physical copies. The point is that streaming has drastically reduced access. So much isn't available digitally. These catalogues are miniscule vs what we used to have access to on physical media.

I’m in that community (I’m not especially fond of the term Hellenic polytheist but haven’t found a better one) and this kind of thing is really, really common. I feel like people need to deprogram before joining.

It's attached to the sunglasses. Like those old eyeglasses-and-nose disguises.

we aren’t going to be able to make up for what they’re stealing from people who need it. but setting up a recurring donation—whatever you can afford—to your local food bank is one of the easiest & most effective ways to help people in your community. find one near you:

“Weaponized incuriosity” is a perfect descriptor and I thank you for it.

Came here to say this. Much of the YA SF I read back in the 80s was dystopian or at least grim, it’s not new.

Gave the first one to my niece. I can imagine her reaction to a Heinlein juvie. She’s too polite to roll her eyes, but.
