Hello to the new followers and folks here. I'm a tech reporter for the NYT. It's going to be an interesting time to report on tech, and more specifically Elon Musk as he extends his power into the White House.

If you work or have worked for him and want to reach me, hit me up on Signal at rmac.18.

with one of the most incredible kickers i've ever seen
NYT excerpt that reads:

On Thursday, Mr. Benioff said he had never been progressive even if many San Franciscans thought he was. He said he was a longtime Republican before switching to become an independent voter.

At the end of the interview, he turned to a public relations executive. He could be heard asking why her mouth was wide open and if he had said anything he shouldn’t have.

“What about the political questions?” he asked. “Too spicy?”

Then he hung up.

Heather Knight is a reporter in San Francisco, leading The Times’s coverage of the Bay Area and Northern California.

Good on TechCrunch for still pubbing these details, but if how bad are you as a spokesperson if you don't even understand the basics.

Also telling that over 8 hours of lectures, Thiel seems to make no mention of Epstein, who some might consider the embodiment of the "antichrist."

Gotta wonder why.

This isn't to say you shouldn't do stories on what he says, but perhaps to include a little more context or skepticism. He's a (very successful) capitalist maximizing returns who likes saying provocative stuff to get a rise out of people.
rmac.bsky.social
If you listen to enough Thiel, you realize that he repeats himself. In the past, there have been repeated references to Star Wars and Star Trek. Recently, he's been fixated on comparing Greta Thunberg to the antichrist. Just because he's packaged stuff into "off record" lectures doesn't mean its new
rmac.bsky.social
Most of the time Thiel speaks publicly or does a flurry of press, it's part of a branding strategy. He's once-again establishing him as the zany contrarian. It sets him apart as he's going out to invest or raise funding.
rmac.bsky.social
It's strange seeing a bunch of outlets pub stories about Thiel's antichrist lectures and label them as exclusives. For one, they aren't exclusive if a source offered the same material to half the tech press.

It's also kind of silly for folks just to parrot Thiel when he's saying this:

Business Insider wrote up a story on how some of their past investigative work led to a new California law. The story is strangely unbylined.

The reason perhaps? The publication recently laid off the reporter behind that investigation, Matt Drange.

New: Apple banned an app that simply archived videos of ICE abuses. Rather than other apps that record ICE official's real-time location, Eyes Up is to "preserve evidence until it can be used in court." Videos from TikTok etc. Every submission manually reviewed

Eyes Up's purpose is to "preserve evidence until it can be used in court." But it has been swept up in Apple's crackdown on ICE-spotting apps.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

But sure let’s judge her based on her “business”.

If that’s the case, what are her business metrics? I haven’t seen anything about the FP’s underlying numbers and whether or not they justify a reported $150 million purchase price.
rmac.bsky.social
Ah yes let us not judge her based on the words that come out of her own mouth but rather whether or not she created shareholder value
