Looks like a moss

Tons of cool plants!

Check counties, water/municipal agencies, land trusts, and maybe state agencies. Those can sometimes be surprisingly good with the benefits.

Consultant gig with an existing firm then go run your own business once you feel comfortable in 3-5 yrs.

Very cool. Real ecology going on! Keep us posted.

You’ve probably come across this one, but there is a similar species (ecologically) up in PORE, L. tidestromii, that was highly influenced by deer mice predation. Might be worth a read: bsapubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Effects of seed density and proximity to refuge habitat on seed predation rates for a rare and a common Lupinus species
PREMISE OF THE STUDY: Biotic interactions such as seed predation can play a role in explaining patterns of abundance among plant species. The effect of seed predation will depend on how the strength...

Epic wildflower yr for huge part of the state, especially mid and lower parts!

Yes, this is a good topic. I think CNPS & CDFW should put out some updated guidelines, specially with all the climate change / assisted migration ideas that are out there. Classic conservation biology principles should still be the way. You should start this up with them if no one else is.

This topic has always been squirrelly imo. I fall on the side that you do not need to introduce sources of same species from regions that will match your future bioclimatic envelope. Just use your local sources and there’s enough diversity to have winners. Rare plants is a dif ball of wax though.

Thanks for all the posts on the talks you attended… That was great to see / much appreciated!

Steph, You Rock!
I’ve been inspired by your work since I was in grad school in the 00s. I was a Fed employee for awhile with I&M NPS back in the early 10s. I can’t imagine what it must feel like now to be a fed. Just know that your work is 100% incredibly valuable to the country. Focus on the +

Santa Rosa Island?

That’s poetry. Well said.

Connection… It’s like when you learn plants (botany) and you never have a normal (oblivious) hike/walk/drive again for the rest of your life

For S. CA, we’ve seen and talked about these scenario happening for decades, plus it getting worse (longer fire season) with climate change.
Everyone who lives in CA needs to internalize the lessons from the past 10 yrs. It’s not if it will happen, but when. The reactions and blame going around…?

Burning into ocean is how these things stop when wind-driven

Congrats! Extension specialist seems like a great fit for you

Do you know if Baja usually has a strong winter precip contrast between N and S… If that is normal in Baja, then would you expect whatever maintains that to shift north over time?

100%

Ranching is in the enabling legislation, so it could be protected permanently. But, it would be amazing if PORE went all-in on elk/wildlife and fire reintroduction, and removed the western ranches, which cause more problems than good, IMO. It’s an amazing place; perfect for a major transition.
