30 years of gardening and I still can't get over the excitement of sowing seeds or the satisfaction of spreading a thick layer of compost ready for planting 🌱

Today’s #1000postcard is the song thrush who sits singing his heart out to anyone who will listen. His liquid song like upward rain dripping over the wet woods in fluting refrain

Did u know? Queen bumblebees are looking for places to hibernate, right now: loose mud, leaf piles, plant pots or, in this case, my ceramic organic wool-filled skep. If you do accidentally disturb a sleeping beauty, just gently cover her back up again, so she can complete her winter's rest.🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🪲🐝
There are times you really don't want to have to go out to work in the rain and then it's gorgeous and glossy and you wouldn't be anywhere else! Glad to come in to a pot of Tulsi, ginger and lemon balm tea 🌱

You think you’re bad at relationships.

But maybe you’re just tired of performing one.

You learned to show care in ways others didn’t understand.

Through honesty.

Through warning before a sound.

Through silence that meant safety.

That’s not failure.

That’s autistic love.

My youngest child was born by cesarean. She was given to me while my wife was taken to recovery. That first wee while was just us. It was a precious time.

Damian Gorman captures the feeling perfectly in 'On the night that you were born' - from 'As If I Cared'

Seeing all the costumes at the No Kings marches made me think of one my favourite Adrian Mitchell poems Revolution ❤️
That's good to know, but aw their little legs having to journey all the way home! 😀
I just used some old compost from a pot outside to get my overwintering onions started and realized too late that it had ants in. Does anyone else worry and feel guilty that they won't find their way back to their colony when you move them by mistake 🥺🌱

Did u know? *Tidy* is not what nature needs in wildlife friendly outside spaces.*Tidy*means no food/homes for little lives. Seed heads are often chopped off - far too*messy*/too *brown*, but each one offers food for birds/winter shelter for small souls. Marvel at the magnificence of *messy*. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🪲🐦‍⬛
I plant crocus and early daffs just for bees waking up on a sunny february day and the thought that I was harming them instead was so upsetting and enraging when I found out!

The dyers camomile still has a few flowers. It's been flowering constantly all summer bringing masses of insects into the veggie garden. Definitely one of the stars of this year #yellowthursday 🌱
