So this IL Hospital Association memo describes an incident where ICE detained a US citizen, gave them HEART PROBLEMS, took them to a hospital where the fought with medical personnel, then left when they realized they detained a CITIZEN.

Alas, they really didn't. Most US farmers are millionaires now- it's not the same farm country your grandparents left.

Most US farmers are just... rich people who voted for tax breaks.

They didn't vote against their own interests, their interests are just real different than what people think they are. (most farmers are just rich & want tax breaks. it's not that deep)

Most US farmers' interests are just NOT what people think they are.

The loudest voices in ag are millionaires who're worried about taxes more than anything else.

They're just rich. It's not that deep

FWIW small farms are the *least* likely to go bankrupt bc of this, because they don't have enough acreage to lose real $$ on soybeans.

It's the big guys who will suffer most.

That's why they're hollerin for bailouts.

Small farmers aren't gonna go bankrupt.

Most small farmers are millionaires with a 6-figure income from an off-farm job, & the farm is somewhere btwn a hobby & a side hustle.

it's the biggest farms that are gonna lose the most money. That's why the big guys are hollerin for bailouts.

Totally unrelated! Here's a chart of soybean exports over the same time period.

Chart of soybean exports from the US, total dollar amount. It rises steadily from 2006/7 until 2014; drops in 2015; rises a little 2016-18 but not up to the 2013 level; drops in 2018-2020 to 2009 levels; and then skyrockets 2021-2023.

Farm bankruptcies are back in the news, so it's time to pull this chart out again.

Hey look they kept rising during Trump's first term. Then they went way down under Biden.
