Watson: Impossible to tell if Holmes is even aware of me.
Holmes, unprompted at every opportunity: Watson is essential to me, inseparable, part of my very flesh and being.
Holmes mentioning that he and Watson share a single heart and soul:

"Excellent! This is a colleague, Watson, after our own heart.

///

"Good, Watson, very good—but quite inadmissable. Well, we can only possess our soul in patience
Picturing Holmes shooting hard dry glitter from his eyes in Superman type laser beams
I was going to include a screencap of Sir Charles’s colonialism and race science theories but ehh, you don’t need that
Why do we bash “Hell-Hounds” for hunting and killing all the Baskervilles but we never question if the Baskerville has bad vibes? Or if they’re just unpleasant to be around?
"Footprints."

"A man's or a woman's?"

Dr. Mortimer looked strangely at us for an instant, and his voice sank almost to a whisper as he answered.

"Mr. Holmes, they were the footprints of a gigantic hound!"
This is always the funny thing with old novels: “it was completely isolated from the world if you don’t count the servants and laborers and traders”
Having to talk to a literal phrenologist because he’s the only “educated” person around… okay 🙄
Literally all these men, including Mortimer, seem insufferable, but god forbid they make friends outside of their class
People always write Sherlock Holmes as an atheist in adaptations, but him being a Christmas and Easter Catholic is so much more interesting.
Don’t confuse the little affair of the Vatican cameos with Holmes’ other Pope commissioned case:

“his famous investigation of the sudden death of Cardinal Tosca—an inquiry which was carried out by him at the express desire of His Holiness the Pope”
“Guess I missed that when I was solving crimes for the Pope” is such a flex
Excuse you, the brandy is a medical professional
Why are they roasting him in his death report 😭
It is a short account of the facts elicited at the death of Sir Charles Baskerville which occurred a few days before that date."
[…]

Sir Charles was a widower, and a man who may be said to have been in some ways of an eccentric habit of mind.
Holmes does not have great customer service skills
Just love the phrase “saints have never flourished in those part”
Baskerville was held by Hugo of that name, nor can it be gainsaid that he was a most wild, profane, and godless man.  This, in truth, his neighbours might have pardoned, seeing that saints have never flourished in those parts
“he lost himself in a monograph which he had undertaken upon the Polyphonic Motets of Lassus.”
Secret codes too

“I am fairly familiar with all forms of secret writings, and am myself the author of a trifling monograph upon the subject, in which I analyze one hundred and sixty separate ciphers, but I confess that this is entirely new to me.”
Holmes and Watson can’t even read a cursed manuscript without flirting smh
