Cars are not sentient beings prowling streets. They're controlled by humans. The _only_ danger to kids is those drivers. (Poisoned candy is not a thing.)

Where's the one suggestion to drivers to go at a safe speed (which at night, w/ kids around, is 15mph) & put phones down & pay utmost attention?

This driver, who already ran the red by entering the intersection without being able to clear it, is oblivious to anyone around here, including someone on a bike accessing the adjacent bike lane.

There's a reason the MA hands-free law calls out no phone usage when at a red light and in a travel lane.

I'm sure if the driver of MA 2SDM61 hit someone blowing through a red light 4 secs after it changed, at an intersection marked No Turn on Red, he'd blame solar glare and police would let him off. (Cyclists are expected to use the pedestrian phase to exit the new shared-used path here.)

Driving on Washington Street heading west in the left lane there was an electric bicycle in the the road in front of my car. Since bicycles are not licensed there's no way to report to the public safety component of our city these rogue users of our transportation network. Not only do they slow traffic down but there's no way that a bicycle should be driving in a roadway. When we started making bicycle lanes on roads we opened the door up for this. I am uncomfortable driving on city streets with bicycles mixed in with automobiles.

I'm still counting bicycles in this stretch compared to cars. The ratio of cars-to-bikes appears to be in excess of 100:1. I don't think that is going to change appreciably. I bike recreationally about 3-6 days / week in the warm season and I see no need to create bike lanes which impair traffic. Neither it is necessary to create an obstacle course to slow traffic down. I think the Washington Street fiasco is an attempt to impose from above an urban landscape on people who prefer their suburban landscape.

If these motor enthusiasts can't maintain the speed limit, they should get off the street and onto the race track or something where they can enjoy their hobby.
