They didn’t even realize they were shaking slightly. One of their hands stayed outstretched after he set them down — reaching. Not grabbing. Not pulling. Just… waiting.

“J-jjust… for a little…?”

… when their back hit the mattress, body sinking into the soft bedding. The contrast between the sharp cold of stone and this — something warm, meant for them — made tears gather again, unbidden.

Their voice was barely there, a ragged whisper, barely audible.

“…Can… you stay…?”

Their room… arranged with such love and care. Their own little refuge. Theirs. Just for them. It still touched their heart more than they’d ever admit.

“…Mhm,” they finally murmured. It was soft, hoarse, but it was permission.

They let him lay them down, breath catching only once …

The only sound was their breathing: shallow, but a little steadier now that they were away from the walls that wered stained with their own blood.

It took a moment before they even realized he’d spoken.

Their eyes cracked open, hazy with fatigue, barely managing to track the room around them.

The shift from the dim outer edge of Castle Town to the quiet hush of the room was overwhelming — soft, clean air, the absence of pain-stricken echoes, the warmth of Ralsei’s arms still wrapped gently around them like armor.

Being taken care of. Nothing felt more comforting at the moment, the idea of being safe and held and cherished like they were a kid again… especially by someone they cared about as much as Ralsei.

“…Th‑thank you… R‑Ralsei…” The words came out raw, unsteady, but sincere.

Every attempt at movement sent pain sparking through their limbs, leaving them trembling and breathless. They knew they wouldn’t make it far on their own.

They lifted their head just barely, enough for their eyes to find him. Even through the haze, they looked at him almost adoringly.

Not quite protest, but not quite relief either.

“…Y‑yeah…” they murmured at last, the syllables slurred with exhaustion. “O‑okay…”

It felt wrong, in some buried part of them, to be the one carried — but they couldn’t fight the truth of it.

Kris let the words sink in for a moment, their breath coming in small, uneven shivers against his chest. They didn’t answer right away — the kind of silence that meant they were thinking too much, feeling too much. When Ralsei mentions carrying them, a faint sound caught in their throat.

Not with their walls broken down like this. Not with Ralsei holding every trembling piece of them so carefully, like nothing about them was wrong to touch.
saveorquit.bsky.social
It wasn’t just the wound — it was everything that came before it, everything still waiting inside them.

“I-I don’t think… I c-can walk… r-r-right now,” they muttered, voice almost a whine. They hated admitting any sort of weakness, but there was no hiding it anymore. Not with the SOUL gone.

They didn’t ask where Susie was, or if the others would have to see them like this. They didn’t ask if they’d be safe. They just trusted that if Ralsei was there, it would be enough.

The exhaustion had settled into their bones, the kind that no amount of magic could chase out.

Somewhere away from this bloodstained alley, from the echo of dragging footsteps, from the air still heavy with the scent of copper.

“…O‑okay… th-that’s okay…” they whispered, voice barely more than air. The word left them in a whisper, fragile and raw, but deliberate.

Kris wasn’t really used to promises being kept — especially ones like that. “I won’t let go,” Ralsei had said, and something deep inside them winced at the kindness. At how badly they needed it.

They nodded once, barely more than a shift of weight against his chest. The castle. Safer. Quiet.

“…I’ll l-let you…. I’ll .. l-let you.”

They were crying again, silent and helpless. Their hands trembled with the weight of needing — not just to be protected, but to be kept. To be held when they were at their worst, and still not sent away.

“J-j-just don’t let go… p-please…”
saveorquit.bsky.social
whether they were allowed to be held like this, spoken to like this.

“B-but you… think I am…”

Their voice fractured, cracking in the middle. They shifted slightly, just enough to bury their face deeper against his chest, like they could disappear into him if they tried hard enough.

“I… I’m not w-worth that…”

The words spilled out low and ragged, barely audible, not out of modesty — but certainty. Their voice didn’t rise. It dropped, a bare whisper like falling ash. Their hand against his chest trembled faintly, as if unsure whether it should stay,
saveorquit.bsky.social
Their fingers splayed slightly like they were trying to remember what it felt like to touch something safe. Their mouth parted again, lips shaping silent syllables before the voice finally followed — small, thin, nearly swallowed by breath. Their voice had always been soft, but not quite like this.
