Hi I am a volcano petrologist, or I study volcanic rocks from active volcanoes to understand why they erupt the way they do. This has implications ranging from crustal-mantle processes, natural hazards, to ore deposits. I studied Indonesian and Chilean volcanoes. I am also interested in DEI.

Check this out! Seismology education software, free 🧪⚒️ #geosciences
It’s #earthscienceweek so I thought I’d go into a bit more detail on how educators can use to our Quick Quake tool to demonstrate how @earthquakes.au seismologists quickly calculate the location and magnitude of an earthquake. It works on macOS machines with Apple Silicon too.

"I do know that when talking to people who perhaps think very differently, the only chance you have of getting them to think in a different way is to touch the heart." — Dr. Jane Goodall (1934-2025)

Thanks, Jane, for touching our hearts.

Low blow taking Jane Goodall from us at this point, universe. :(
Exactly! Every path is different. As long as you yourself know your reasons and do it with purpose, it's not and should not be a source of shame.
Someone recently bragged to me about how they skipped the postdoc stage onto a faculty position. Good for you.

I choose to do postdocs to complete my skillset, expand my network, and gain experience conducting independent science. That should be enough, and I won't be made to feel bad about it.
