A favorite tactic to discredit #science is to try and drag it down as just another “belief” system.

So, I would take a minute during my demos to explain to my audiences the difference between gathering, evaluating and presenting evidence and “belief”, telling them how:

We’d occasionally have Moon Snail egg casings in the touch tank at Pacific Science Center.

I’d wait until the kid had been holding it for a minute before explaining that they were handling a mixture of sand, eggs and butt snot.

Their expressions were priceless.

Daughter gave me hand warmers to use when biking or walking Millie, in the chillier months.

Found another use for them after my hand had been in 46F water for the better part of 2 hours (once they’d dried)

Aquarium was busy, but not crowded. Lotsa good questions and “that’s so cool” moments.

So many creepy Twilight Zone episodes written by Richard Matheson, who also gave us I Am Legend and the murderous Zuni doll.

Which makes the comedy episode he wrote for Zone starring Buster Keaton as a janitor from 1890 (scenes done in silent film style) accidentally sent to 1961, even more fun.
