The declaration was signed by Archbishop Leo Cushley on behalf of the Conference of Bishops of the Catholic Church in Scotland and by the Most Rev Mark Strange, Bishop of Moray, Ross & Caithness and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church.

The historic declaration of friendship will be signed at the capital’s two ‘St Mary’s’ cathedrals. The first part of the signing will take place at St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in York Place, and the second part at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Palmerston Place.

Dr Cameron was en route to the Diakonia World Federation Assembly, this year held in Tanzania. She had met some of the Kenyan deacons at a previous conference and was delighted to be invited to visit them and see the project.
