All commissaries, even the Marine Corps’, belong to the Defense Commissary Agency and are funded through congressional appropriations. The exchanges are different-they are run by the services with nonappropriated funds.

This is not a new idea. The purpose of commissaries was to ensure families had access to grocery staples as many installations are in isolated areas. The subsidy is a benefit that can be outsourced so the DOD doesn’t have to manage a full-on grocery chain. Note: I think Hegseth is a total boob.

Texas has its own militia as well as National Guard units-both were employed by the governor in response to the floods. As it should be.

Excellent. So now we’ll have a Defense Department that costs $1T annually but now we won’t know where to use it, why to use it, or when to use it.

Also, going into sophisticated trade negotiations with sophisticated economic powers is waaaay more fun when going in blind.
