Our discussion will focus on utility reform (Chapter 2) and access to capital for clean energy development (Chapter 6) — offering the opportunity to start thinking through tangible ways to change energy systems. 🔌💡🗺️

Arguing for a justice first approach to climate action, Baker reasons that those most marginalized by the current extractive fossil-fuel energy system must be at the forefront in designing how we restructure how energy is generated, accessed, and distributed in the transition towards clean energy.

I should totally write a memoir--because being a long-term resident foreigner slowly but totally changes everything about one's perspective and sense of self, & since I keep diaries, I have the raw data from which I could narrate this (if I had available work hours.)

We’re not doing Amazon, definitely not today or tomorrow. Find local/alternate suppliers for what you want.

I no longer have an Amazon account. Everything I need can be (a) bought from its manufacturer, (b) swapped for a similar product that does not use Amazon as a distributor, or (c) left behind in my past as an unnecessary form of consumption ✨️🌟✨️🌟 #klima

I actually know what this means now (ehemalig=former) after having repeatedly looked up, then forgotten, the first word

You're welcome. Your blog entry is really solid--actually in some ways closer to relevant ethnographic detail and historical/legal info than the article linked above. Hope the presentation went well!

I can't wait until my historical paper is published in @engrstudies.bsky.social journal! Any day now, it might go online🕯

🕯I literally worked from 2013-2024 😳 on my archival investigation of Australian engineering ethics codes.🕯

Finally I have almost brought the results to light!🕯🔥

A folder and three black and white printouts sit on a table. Two are titled "Code of Ethics" and all have extensive handwritten annotations and marginalia.

🙏🏼 Thank the Universe 🌏 for small mercies 🙏🏼 I thought my LMU email address might turn off tomorrow, which would have been awkward since I am just about to publish two important things 📃📃 with that address as corresponding author....

#StrongWomen ♀️ have come so far and done so much since my grandmother's birth in 1898, yet we still find ourselves in the same place:

living on the margins at the whim of men and property-owners regarding whether and how we ever take up a paid role with dignity in the center of public life.

I am grateful I inherited Gillian's family's talent for languages, helping my #EU #integration.

Gillian's mother was Nancy Naylor Mallory Willett, who taught French and Spanish after a brief career in military intelligence and passed away in 2006. Nancy never learned to drive.

I have to admit that's not really going so well....Yet, ideals and narratives about the inclusive society somehow outlast their own nondelivery in practice.

30 years of educational self-distinction have left me exhausted at the starting line of the yet-further rounds of obligatory competition. 😞⚔️

My mother, Gillian Mallory Bruce (1954-2010): Valued education, was very ambitious for me 😭

Gillian wanted me to be able to transcend my working-class origins through education.
A proud-looking lady, about 25 and with a huge mass of mid-chest-length brown hair slightly highlighted by the son, crouches in a pumpkin patch over a gigantic pumpkin she grew. She has a lilac tank top and a small beaded necklace. Pumpkin leaves loom over her, suggesting abundance.

"getting from crude to the multitude of fuel and petrochemical products, which by design were marketed to become so ubiquitous in everyday life that their oily origins became invisible, even as oil profits were hidden, concentrated and contested (chap. 7)." (4/4)
