I’m a big fan of Labour-y people across the spectrum but I’m not sure that announcing a policy review or a massive private bank announcing an investment is really a “Labour achievement” in the same way as the Govt pumping in £84m (No1) is

“It was the 89th anniversary of the arrest of my father for being one of the organisers of the 1936 Cable Street resistance to the rise of fascism in Britain.

I was arrested on Saturday with hundreds of others at the Defend Our Juries action…”

One of our team was arrested yesterday for allegedly breaching protest restrictions, even though they weren't protesting – because wearing a keffiyeh while walking down the street is "reasonable suspicion".

This is the result of Starmer's crackdown: we're back in time to Nov 2023 under the Tories

And why is he talking about freedom of speech when there has been a right to freedom of speech for 25 years

Sounds the same…but conceptually different

I wish more academics would openly recognise when stepping out of their own lane - into an area in which they are not expert or unbelievably well versed - but nonetheless offer an informed view based on their wider experience and knowledge as the basis for a discussion

The irony of labelling Film Studies a Mickey Mouse degrees is simply lost on these people…

..and in a post modern way, how apt is that

Netpol's 'State of Protest' report for 2024 launched with a stark title: ‘This is Repression’. On the second anniversary of the continuing genocide in Gaza, it is hard to know what we will call our assessment of protest rights for 2025.

Perhaps ‘An End to Our Illusions’? netpol.org/2025/10/06/a...

These are not serious, defensible policies by Jenrick (especially) but others - sacking judges, deporting 150,000 per year etc but they’re not intended to be

They’re bluster-bollocks aimed at headlines and clicks, the desperate vacuous promises of the jilted lover seeking to win back favour
