In the week we launched our report Uncontacted Indigenous Peoples: at the edge of survival, we also remember our friend Paulo Paulino. Paulo was a strong and determined Guajajara Guardian from the Brazilian Amazon, who was murdered by loggers.

Why?

Québec went to war against doctors.

Alberta went to war against teachers.

Ontario went to war against renters.

Canada is going to war against public servants.

Who will come out the winners of this, if not the millionaires?

Yet regular folks keep getting fooled.

Doug Ford is a very strange politician.

Totally car-brained, awful to cyclists. But is also funding the biggest transit expansion in North America.

Tougher than Carney on the US and tariffs. But is also the only person in the world I’ve ever heard say something good about Ambassador Pete Hoekstra.
Cannot believe I'm saying this, but Doug Ford has a greater sense than Mark Carney, I think, of how Canadians want to see our diplomacy conducted rn. The provocative ad campaign satisfies those who think we aren't standing up for ourselves, balanced out with things like this WSJ olive branch op-ed.

I also spent a solid 20 minutes trying to get the moment directly before a tern dives into the water. I wasn't successful, but I did get some really pretty tern shots 😍

Pretty impressive - if you believe Wikipedia, that would put it in the top 20 largest quarterly losses of all time.

Still well short of AOL-Time Warner, tho - Sam has still got some work to do. www.theregister.com/2025/10/29/m...

New article just published! I address Bill Gates' recent pivot away from climate change, and explain why his message is both dangerous (emboldening climate deniers) and incoherent (climate change mitigation is inextricably bound up with alleviating global poverty). GRRRR!!!
Why Bill Gates’ Pivot Away from Climate Change Is So Dangerous (and Totally Incoherent)
My apologies for not having published an article earlier this week — I’ve been moving, and so have had much less time than usual to write!

FYI I think there is a missing word (perhaps 'mitigation') in the clause "but climate change is a form of foreign aid."

Gates' implication that responsibly addressing climate change exacerbates poverty is nonsense; thanks for making that clear!

So there were some AI-generated videos that purported to show Black women ranting about SNAP benefits, and... Fox News is reporting on this like these are real people. They're not! They're AI!

This is truly insane. Total unreality. www.foxnews.com/media/snap-b...

Nirvana releases its legendary "MTV Unplugged" concert album 31 years ago today — seven months after Cobain’s passing.

“In the moment, you weren’t aware you were taping what was Nirvana's last album," producer Alex Coletti said. "It was only in hindsight that it became what it became."

#RIP
The values of la belle province and its metropole have diverged, tragically. Our fundamental rights are at stake. We can and must prevent rogue teachers from creating hostile environments like at Bedford *without curtailing basic freedoms or persecuting minorities.*

Ezra Lavant said it was weird that JD Vance threw his wife under the bus to please groypers and had to delete the comment after the Vice President put him on blast. Now he's furiously posting clips of Nick Fuentes calling JD Vance fat gay and a race traitor
