About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages

Overall, I'd say it's fine? Plain but serviceable; solid floor and has room to improve.
My opinion might improve as I move further in the series, and I'll at least give the second book a chance since it's already in my keeping.

That all said, I don't know if I'd keep reading the series (Legends of Thezmarr) if I hadn't been loaned the set because nothing stands out/grabs me.

It's a Boot Camp book, which I'm not a fan of generally, but you (the reader) don't learn anything about the world and how it works

I like both the FMC and MMC, although it might be more accurate to say that I didn't *dislike* them. (And again that's a pleasant change)

Secondary characters are basically sketches—enjoyable ones! But I'd have liked some more development

A professional wrote this; I never got taken out of the story by punctuation, word choice, nonsensical character choices, etc, and that's such a nice change from some of the other authors I've read in this subgenre

Iunno, bruh. I keep finding myself disappointed with both the romance and fantasy sides of the Romantasy genre. The fantasy bits are usually blah, and the romances constantly have me wondering wtf is appealing about these asshole MMCs and/or where/when did the romance occur in the story
