It's crazy how it seems people have been chasing the critical success of this game for almost 30 years in both the indie and major game dev circles, but nothing seems to really have recaptured the magic of this title. I only played a bit in high school, but it seems not outdone by anything following

To me, if somebody hires you as a CD and not an actor, your job is to help them find the talent the project needs. If they specifically want you as an actor, that's one thing. Otherwise, I think it's best to do the job you were hired for: finding and selecting talent, not performing.

Yeah, I understand the perspective of "it's just easier"

I think the issue does come from if the CD is advocating for it. Like "Yeah I can totally help you cast for this. Oh and also, I know just the guy for this big part: me!" Does feel somehow underhanded to me.
