Low level and mid level positions are where you build up into senior level talent. Allow space for someone to learn, while paying them!

Sure, it'll take me time to spin up SQL queries, but guess what? I'm already finding ways to use it the engineers forgot about! Because I have those fresh eyes.

It reminded me of an earlier conversation I heard about AI poisoning workplaces. Specifically as AI "fills the gaps" it becomes impossible to apprenticeship in anything.

If there's no room to be bad at something and get paid for it, where will we get people who are good those things in the future!

I carefully explained that I can't just "review its output" without having any competency in what it's creating to begin with. I cannot see the slop or hallucinations if I haven't learned this myself first.

He agreed with me! It would be a bad idea to use those tools without prior knowledge. Lol

A programmer I work with was trying to encourage me to swap to using AI instead of going through all the frustrations trying to learn SQL querying at work. Not worth all the hassle and pain. Just AI it and review its output!
