Sometimes I can't help myself....

Doing some small talk with a coworker and asked him his plans for the upcoming long weekend.

Watching him go from getting excited about forgetting a long weekend and then realizing no long weekend I'm just an asshole, was kind of awesome.

Blind Date with a Book! Had a popup bookstore at my work. Showed up with books wrapped in plain paper, with a small description.
#DogEaredBooks in Oromocto, best local #bookstore ever!

Unwrapped to find Stephen King's, Dreamcatcher! I have never read this and haven't read anything by King in decades!
I'm looking forward to this date!

Tonight's recipe is a special one.

Everything About To Be Too Freezer Burnt To Use Stew

It has Beef Shank, Chopped Pork Hocks, Goat Stewing Meat, Double Smoked Bacon, onions, garlic, celery, carrots, and potatoes.

Slow cooked for a few hours. 🍜🍽️

Stew made from all the packs of meat I bought on sale that were too small for a meal for two but were about to be too freezer burnt to use.

Yeah, it was only its third year and it was kind of a gangly little thing.
I'm more happy that even though we haven't been in to check the property in a year, people haven't started using it as a dumpster again.
I hauled a lot of garbage out of there.

Nothing was harmed today but it was nice to visit our property and do a little walk around.

The apple tree we planted didn't survive the drought, the road needs some thinning out and the bypass route we put in for that atv'ers is no longer passable, but the property itself is in good shape.

Did an initial scouting of an area that I'll likely hunt from time to time.

I saw two grouse but didn't have a clear or safe shot at either of them before they flew off too far and I lost them. Next time.

It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods though.

I prefer bolt action #rifles. They're more reliable, accurate, simple, better stopping power, lower recoil.
I also find it means I can use cheaper ammo as you're not likely to get any jams.
Semi-autos tend to be princesses with ammo and there is a lot more that can go wrong.
Buy a .22 bolt action

Not an animal I'll hunt as I won't eat them. Too many parasites and they're not supposed to taste good.
Rabbits, upland birds (partridge), maybe porcupine (stew, and First Nations friends that want the quills).
Pretty much anything up to the size of a coyote.

Here is my .22!

It's a Savage Arms Mark II, left-handed bolt action. I've mounted a 3-9 x 32 mm scope on it and it's a nail driver.

Lightweight, fun for shoot, cheap ammo, and it will put meat on your table.

Personally, I think if you're going to own firearms one of them must be a .22.

My .22 rifle. It has a wooden stock, a trigger lock, a rifle Sling, and a mounted scope.

Won 2 lost 3 tonight at #chess night. The 3 games I lost, 2 of those I played good chess but against a great player. One of them I was just playing fast and not thinking beyond one move, deserved the loss.
1 of my wins, beat someone I haven't been able to beat before and felt like I broke a plateau

One year ago today, I started up a #chess club at my work!
For the first 3 weeks it was just 2 of us. Now we normally get at least 20 people out to play and there are 150 people in the club!

I didn't slice my bread until this morning as I wanted to wait until it had time to fully cool but it turned out fantastic and worth the extra time I took.

Internal look at the bread. No holes, light, fluffy, moist, and tender.
Frankly one of the better loaves I have ever made.

Two loaves of brown bread, ready to be consumed!
