The headstone of my partner's 2nd great-grandmother, Winifred Coughlin & other family at Calvary Cemetery in Queens, NY.
Calvary has the largest number of burials of any cemetery in the United States at about 3 million.
This headstone provided the hometown of Winifred 1/2

A very evocative phrase seen in the occupations listed for the residents of St Botolph Aldgate, London in the 1881 census. 46 year old Abraham Keys was a "Nurse of the sick & watcher of the dead". His 38 year old wife Sarah Keys was also a "watcher of the dead".
Screenshot of a detail from 1881 census return for St Botolph Aldgate, London showing two entries for the occupations "Nurse of the sick & watcher of the dead" and "watcher of the dead"

I wonder how long that message will be told

Spotted a headstone a few weeks ago where the redaction of the story is more advanced

A sensible person snaps up any publication by Christiaan Corlett that's offered for sale, because elusive isn't the word. Maybe 'fugitive'.

That cemetery had a lot of historical markers in it for the early settlers in the area. The Colonist refers to the voluntary settlers. I have seen Colonist on quite a few gravestones in different areas in South Australia. I haven't see it elsewhere.

Interesting that we might now say killed in a workplace accident but. Geadstone says died

Received something similar earlier in week

Reported (not easily) to AIB online

I do wonder if there is joined up thinking with regard to the telephone numbers used and whether mobile companies are proactive in policing

As I understand it the question asked was about a job at Áras - job rank and duty unspecified

Is it not correct that the candidate and the position would need to be considered?

The first time I have considered the word 'Colonist'

Does it include both those who arrived voluntarily and otherwise?

I have seen on headstones of religious the number of years professed/ordained but never seen number of years arrived in the country

Another for the TO FIND OUT MORE list

A close up photograph of two prominent, weathered marble gravestones in a cemetery.

The foreground headstone, leaning slightly, is a rounded top marker dedicated to "Mary Rebecca" (died December 31, 1891) and "John" (died September 23, 1902), stating he was "A Colonist of 51 Years."

The stone is etched with a floral/wreath design near the top. Behind it, a taller, Gothic-arched white marble headstone is partially visible.

The stones sit on gravel beds surrounded by a low railing, with a white structure and tall, dark trees in the background, out of focus.
