2019 – THE YEAR THAT TRANSFORMED CYCLING (mega thread) 🧵

A few weeks ago, I was thinking about what events have actually changed men’s cycling in recent history and after some time, I started to see a pattern – a lot of things that transformed cycling into what it is now happened in the year 2019.
Wow didn’t hear about that 👀 I know he was linked to Cofidis but they are now full, and also to Groupama
VICTOR LAFAY TO UNIBET ROSE ROCKETS??? 🤯🤯🤯
Elination is facing elimination 🥲
The "Tour Auvergne Rhône Alpes" is a crime against humanity
tbh Adams looks a bit like Epstein as well
also Hermans podiuming Liège and winning that stage at Belgium Tour after which he jumped into the pool 😅 oh my god where the mighty have fallen...
I miss 2022 Intermarché with Bini, Kristoff, Hirt, Taco, Pozzovivo, Taaramäe etc. 😢 what a magical season...
Don't think so, Benson mentioned that all of Jayco, AlUla and Giant are committed through to 2028 and Gerry Ryan apparently also doesn't look like he's dropping out
Yeah well he's there so he can race on the road as part of preparation for the CX season
Or of course they could wait and see what happens around the Lotto-Intermarché merger, Arkéa or even Jayco and pounce on some bargains there but I feel like Pringle is a logical choice given he's already in their internal structure and he's shown he's got loads of talent.
Another thought: Now that Lazkano's out of the team, RBH is left with 28 riders, which is enough but I recall reading somewhere that they want 29 riders for 2026. One option could be Nate Pringle, 🥈 from U23 TT 🌈, who can't continue in U23s anymore and has not extended with the Rookies for 2026.
Shouldn’t Movistar kinda start to worry a bit? First Vinícius Rangel busted, now Lazkano + they have Aular, Cepera and Barrenetxea who were at Caja back in 2023… this could get problematic 😬

Or when he starts to win TTs (on a Movistar set-up)
Or did they choose to not know?

Happy birthday Rogla 🥳

Cheers to a better 2026 🍻
It was actually a win-win deal for both FIFA and the Saudis. Infantino could organise his dream tournament where without the massive prize pool, no big teams would ever come and the Saudis got the right to organise the 2034 World Cup as a favor in return
They also use the PIF as a sponsor, for example at Newcastle Uniteďs home games (whom they own) or during summer at the Club World Cup in 🇺🇸 where they mysteriously invested 1 billion $ into DAZN who signed a 1 billion $ broadcasting deal with FIFA who then had a 1 billion $ prize pool to flex with
If you were a professional cyclist, which team from WT/PT would you want to join? (you and Patrick cannot use teams you work or used to work for so no Visma etc.)
Could the Cofidis women's team actually enter the WT in 2026? They applied for the license even though they were only 18th in the two-year ranking BUT:
- VolkerWessels (15th) and Laboral Kuxta (16th) have both applied for the PT license
- Roland (17th) have not applied for any license
He was rumoured to join Ineos but he hasn’t signed anything yet… Benson was reporting about this
Let's not forget, he beat Jonas in that year's TT on Stage 7 😤
Rogla was not good that day, sadly 🥲
...apparently Michał Kwiatkowski visited the Polish ATT riders at the CRO Race and was praising the team's organisational level. Piotr Pekala finished that race with 7 WorldTeams in 8th place in GC.
