Avoiding therapyspeak in writing fanwork honestly feels especially rough because you've already done all the feelings examination FOR the character - that's how you learned to understand them enough to write fanwork!

It's tough to then dial back because The Character doesn't know any of this shit!

I'd really appreciate if writers these days took a look at their characters doing therapyspeak and whether that's appropriate for their work and their world.

By "therapyspeak" I mean speaking like this: "This is the emotion I'm feeling, and feeling that emotion makes me want to act in a way"

When I watched IBO, I binged it in like three days, so I never put much thought to how mysterious McGillis' motives are got such a long chunk of the show

Watching other people go through slowly is really eye opening with regards to his character reception
