We need more "unfunded" research, not less. Or rather, we need more "core" funding and much less project based funding. Then universities can *invest* in core research infrastructure (including people), reduce precarity, and focus on growing and retaining talent.

Second day back to work after a month away is like the first real day back.

Yesterday was mostly spent laugh-crying maniacally at my to-do list and inbox.

Just out of curiosity, is the use of causal inference terms such as confouders, mediators, colliders, etc. right in predictive models? Do DAGs matter in this context?
Thanks in advance!

Congrats for your work!
Now I'd rather use the bounding analysis over other APC approaches, just because how transparently assumptions are made (which likely also influences how 'confidently' results are interpreted).
Also thanks for providing the code used for the empirical illustration!

Now officially out with nice formatting and all 🥳 "Thinking clearly about age, period, and cohort effects" -- a gentle introduction to the age-period-cohort problem and how to "solve" it through various types of assumptions.

Me ha parecido muy interesante este artículo con enfoque práctico sobre cómo (no) usar IA generativa en investigación.

"My AI therapist got me through dark times"

< in a competitive field, the notion of an AI 'therapist' may win the award for the most ignorant and inappropriate use of AI

At the heart of therapy is a human relationship. This is fundamentally not possible with an AI.

Y la especialidad en general, ¿no?
En Andalucía solo se ha elegido 1 plaza (Sevilla).

The anti-vaccine crowd say they just want to “see the evidence” in the form of placebo-controlled randomized trials.

But we've done these trials. And we know our vaccines work. Which is precisely why we can't use placebo to test better vaccines.

New vaccines get placebo-controlled trials. Improved vaccines shouldn't.

Ready to get the ick about milk? Here’s a list of the grossest, weirdest, and most dangerous things ever found in milk!

And a reminder why we need good, well-funded, coordinated food safety regulations.
