I could say I started writing this last summer, when I first started taking notes for it. I could say I started in May, when those notes actually started taking the shape of some legible. In truth, I think I started writing this ten years ago, when the story truly began, when our roads started to parallel each other.

There were times when I thought I would never truly be done - because that's the thing about life, right? It just keeps going. We just keep going.

This is only the story so far. There was really no way I could tell all of it, but the parts that made it in might as well be part of me, too. This is a story, it is the story, the one that felt so important to tell, just as important as it has been in my own, to witness, to share in. I hope it reaches you. Whoever you are, wherever you're at, in your own journey.

I was 20 back then. I'm 30 now. Sometimes I never thought I would make it. But I did. We all do, in time. It's not easy, and it's not straightforward, but it's worth it. All of it. It makes us whole. It makes us human.
