If the Voting Rights Act is deemed unconstitutional, it won't be long until these malicious cartoon villains come for the Civil Rights Act. The biggest trick the Devil ever played was the "both sides are the same" nonsense.
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
Please write about it. We're all struggling. People need to understand why this is bullshit. This is a dense area that the court has made deliberately complicated. It's not. We will either have democracy or fascism.

This year SCOTUS is claiming the same law they upheld for the same reason two years ago in Alabama is somehow racist against white people when applied in Louisiana. Lower courts documented the racism at work in both states. Hearing this case is deeply unserious and brazenly racist.

Just so we're clear: SCOTUS upheld section 2 of the Voting Rights Act two years ago. It ordered Alabama to create a minority influence district in which Blackfolks could elect a candidate of their choice. They refused to comply using a cartoonishly racist rationale. A lower court imposed the map.

i need Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson to dispense with civility if their colleagues are hell-bent on striking down the Voting Rights Act. i want a dissent for the ages. i. want. fire.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
it's complicated, but the fallout from the current mayor's federal prosecution, which is b.s., has disillusioned some folk, and two candidates split the black vote, with Ms. Helena getting most of the rest.

SCOTUS: White people have the constitutional right to be represented by a neo-Confederate, neo-fascist Republican in the halls of Congress, and Black people and other minorities have no right to equal representation.

@angryblacklady.blacksky.app please post whatever dialog you do on this VRA case whenever and wherever you do it. i'm dying to hear your extended thoughts.

SCOTUS declined to explain why ICE can use race to abduct you off the street without probable cause but the government is absolutely forbidden to use race to preserve the voting rights of historically marginalized and minoritized communities.

The right to vote, it is famously said is "preservative of all other rights." If communities of color no longer have a right to fair representation, then what we're building on these shores is an imperialist form of fascism and not democracy. I don't think I can stay in this country.
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
My desire to stay in this country and fight for racial justice is at a low ebb. The biggest trick of white supremacy is the constant battle to be treated as an equal citizen.

In so doing, they're siding with the Justices of the Nineteenth Century that ushered in Jim Crow. The destruction of the crown jewel of the Civil Rights Movement is complete.
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
They've decided to gaslight us with the ridiculous argument that the original intent of the Civil War Amendments doesn't allow for the protection of minority voting rights. But does allow for the protection of white supremacy.
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
The gleeful intellectual dishonesty on display for this Voting Rights Act case is stunning. They upheld the VRA in identical circumstances in an Alabama case two years ago and are now poised to strike it down or cripple it so substantially that it doesn't matter.

She's as ridiculous as she is dangerous.

Or the other Maine Senator that caucuses with Democrats that was easily re-elected last year at 80.
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
Platner has had a very impressive launch. Don't sell him short. Trust the people. A contested primary will invigorate the party. Maine will end up with an aggressive fighter either way in the general.

Students & faculty have a first Amendment right 2 protest. While it is true some pro-Palestinian folks R extremists & held Kamala Harris 2 an impossible & unfair standard they were unwilling 2 hold Trump 2, they all weren't doing that. They certainly didn't deserve 2 be fired or expelled.
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
If the bailout succeeds, he'll get the credit and win re-election.
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
Platner is running to give people a choice and they'll have two good ones. I trust the people to decide.
skepticalbrotha.bsky.social
He's clearly lit a fire in Maine. The idea that he's being iced out is incorrect, but he will have a fight on his hands because the governor is a formidable woman.

Gov. Mills, 77, is the only Democrat to win a statewide race in two decades. Independent Senator Angus King, also a former governor, was easily re-elected last year at age eighty. We can't buy into double standards.
